Look What We Made
“The fantastical creatures illustrated in the 16th-century encyclopaedia Historiae Animalium have influenced countless writers and scholars through the centuries, and form the starting point for the Beautiful Monsters project. The book’s author, Conrad Gessner, included actual and mythological animals side by side, including many labelled ‘monsters’, with little distinction between the real and the imaginary.” Text to accompany Beautiful Monsters written by Emma Marigliano.
Look What We Made depicts the casual cruelty of some human-made monsters: a team of whalers, hacking into the carcass of a culled ‘monster’; a mass of users carried along on the back of a social media beast.
Electronic robots guided by ultrasound sensor, dressed in digital print on Kozo paper, with plastic models (each 15 x 13 x 13cm).
